January 30, 2012, Dennis Barie, age 36 of Melvin, Iowa, pled guilty to Driving While Suspended, a Simple Misdemeanor. The Defendant is to pay a fine of $397.50, the cost of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees, if any. On January 20, 2012, Dennis Barie was stopped on 220th Street and White Avenue. A check of Barie’s driving record showed him to be suspended for Non-payment of Iowa Fine. Barie was arrested for Driving While Suspended.
January 28, 2012, at 5:15pm, Jason Darnell, age 32 of Sibley, Iowa, was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina, southbound on 2nd Avenue in the right lane, south of 5th Street in Sibley, Iowa. Chad VanEngen, age 27 of Inwood, Iowa, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet pickup, southbound on 2nd Avenue in the left lane, south of 5th Street and attempted to make a right turn into a residential drive way. Darnell attempted to avoid colliding with VanEngen’s vehicle by braking, but was unable to stop in time and collided on the roadway. Darnell’s vehicle sustained approximately $2,000 damage. VanEngen’s vehicle sustained approximately $1,000 damage and was given a citation for Unsafe Turn or Failure to Give Signal. No injuries were reported.
January 28, 2012, Jordan Lawrence Lovan, age 20 of Sibley, Iowa, pled guilty to Delivery of Marijuana, a Class “D” Felony. The Defendant is to pay a fine of $1,557.50, the cost of this action, restitution of any court appointed attorney fees, and victim restitution, if any. The Defendant is sentenced to the custody of the Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections for a term not to exceed five (5) years; however, the incarceration is suspended and is placed on formal probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for a period of two (2) years. The Defendant shall successfully complete a Victim Empathy Class, undergo a Substance Abuse Evaluation and comply with the treatments recommendations. On March 24, 2011, Jordan Lovan delivered 7.5 grams of marijuana to a confidential informant in Osceola County.
January 28, 2012, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a vehicle stuck at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and 6th Street in Sibley. Upon arrival deputies found Sebastian Jimenez, 39, of Sibley operating the vehicle and attempting to get the vehicle unstuck. Two other subjects attempted to walk away and were later identified as Araon Gomez Gonzalez, 33, of Sibley and Isai Perez Hernandez, 22, of Sibley. Jimenez was arrested and charged with allegedly Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor. Jimenez was also charged with Open Container, Failure to Maintain Control, Failure to have a Valid Driver’s License, and Failure to Prove Security Against Liability, all Simple Misdemeanors. Jimenez is in the Osceola County Jail on a $2200 cash bond and an Immigration Hold was also placed on Jimenez. Perez Hernandez and Gomez Gonzalez were charged with the alleged offense of Public Intoxication, a Simple Misdemeanor. Both subjects are in the Osceola County Jail on a $300 cash bond and an Immigration Hold was also placed on both subjects.
January 25, 2012, at 8:00am, Ana Guzman, age 32 of Worthington, MN, was driving a 2004 Honda Accord, southbound on White Avenue, approaching 170th Street, and lost control on the icy highway. Guzman’s vehicle slid off the roadway and entered the west ditch and came to rest facing north. Guzman’s vehicle sustained approximately $1,500 damage. No injuries were reported.
January 25, 2012, at 8:50am, James Sims, age 22 of Sibley, IA, was driving a 1990 Ford pickup, southbound on 5th Avenue, approaching 7th Street, in Sibley, IA. Zachary Sik, age 17 of Ocheyedan, IA, was driving a 1994 Ford pickup, westbound on 7th Street, approaching 5th Avenue. Due to the icy road conditions, both vehicles couldn’t stop in time and collided in the intersection. Both vehicles sustained approximately $1,500 damage. No injuries were reported.
January 22, 2012, at 6:10pm, Elizabeth Coronado, age 42 of Worthington, MN, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer, northbound on Hwy 60, at the intersection of 200th Street, and lost control on the icy highway. Coronado’s vehicle slid off the roadway and onto the right shoulder where the vehicle struck three (3) road signs before coming to rest in the southeast corner of the intersection. Coronado’s vehicle sustained approximately $2,400 damage. Three (3) road signs, one owned by Osceola County, sustained approximately $100 damage; the other 2 road signs, owned by the IA Department of Transportation, sustained approximately $350 damage. Coronado was given a citation for Failure to have a Valid Driver’s License. No injuries were reported.
January 22, 2012, at 11:40am, Ronald Newgard, age 69 of Milford, IA, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado, eastbound on Hwy 9, approaching Sorrell Avenue. Bryce Mortenson, age 29 of Terril, IA, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet pickup, eastbound on Hwy 9, behind Newgard’s vehicle. Because of the icy road conditions, Newgard slowed down. Mortenson attempted to pass Newgard’s vehicle, lost traction, and sideswiped Newgard’s vehicle. Mortenson’s vehicle sustained approximately $1,500 damage. Newgard’s vehicle sustained approximately $250 damage. No injuries were reported.
January 20, 2012, Dennis Louis Barrie Jr., age 36 of Melvin, Iowa, was arrested for allegedly Driving While Suspended, a Simple Misdemeanor. Barrie was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $300 cash bond.
January 19, 2012, Nicholas John Klatt, age 32 of Melvin, Iowa, pled guilty to Failure to Appear on an Aggravated Misdemeanor offense, a Serious Misdemeanor; Burglary 3rd Degree, an Aggravated Misdemeanor; and Theft 5th Degree, a Simple Misdemeanor. On the Theft 5th charge, the Defendant is sentenced to imprisonment in the Osceola County Jail for a term of thirty (30) days, with all time suspended. On the Failure to Appear charge, the Defendant is sentenced to imprisonment in the Osceola County Jail for a term of one (1) year, with all time suspended. On the Burglary charge, the Defendant is sentenced to imprisonment with the Iowa Department of Corrections for a term not to exceed two (2) years, with all time suspended except for sixteen (16) days. The Defendant shall enter a Residential Treatment Facility and successfully complete the program. The Defendant shall undergo a substance abuse treatment program and comply with the treatments recommendations. The Defendant is placed on formal probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for a period of two (2) years. On January 2, 2011, Nicholas Klatt entered an unoccupied vehicle that he did not own and took the keys from the ignition. Klatt was arrested for Burglary 3rd Degree. On July 15, 2011, Nicholas Klatt failed to appear in court for a contempt hearing for non-compliance with a previous judgment and sentence. As a result a warrant was issued for his arrest. On December 18, 2011, Nicholas Klatt took a cell phone that did not belong to him. Klatt was charged with Theft 5th Degree.
January 18, 2012, at 2:45pm, Bernard Butler, age 64 of Sibley, Iowa, was driving a 1995 Dodge Dakota, northbound on 9th Avenue, approaching the intersection of 10th Street is Sibley, Iowa. Jodi Ackerman, age 28 of Sibley, Iowa, was driving a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix, eastbound on 10th Street and stopped at the stop sign at 9th Avenue. Ackerman did not see Butler’s vehicle and proceeded through the intersection, causing both vehicles to collide on the roadway. Butler’s vehicle sustained approximately $2,000 damage. Ackerman’s vehicle sustained approximately $750 damage. No injuries were reported.
January 13, 2012, Margaret Mae Timmins, age 22 of Sibley, Iowa, pled guilty to Possession of Methamphetamine, a Serious Misdemeanor; and Neglect of a Dependent Person, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. The Defendant is to pay a total fine of $1,000.25, the cost of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees, if any. On the Methamphetamine change, the Defendant is sentenced to imprisonment in the Osceola County Jail for a term of one (1) year, with all time suspended except for two (2) days. On the Neglect change, the judgment is deferred pending successful completion of the probation requirements. The Defendant is placed on formal probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for a period of two (2) years. The Defendant shall successfully complete a Substance Abuse Treatment Program, and a Victim Empathy course. On December 21, 2010, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Margaret Timmins residence in Sibley, Iowa. Osceola County Deputies found methamphetamine and items used in the production of methamphetamine where Timmins’ infant child was present and exposed to in the residence.
January 13, 2012, Brandon Lee Dolphin, age 29 of Hartley, Iowa, pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated 2nd offense, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. The Defendant is to pay a fine of $2,507.50, the cost of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees, if any. The Defendant is sentenced to imprisonment in the Osceola County Jail for a period of one (1) year, with all time suspended except for seven (7) days. The Defendant is placed on informal probation to the Osceola County Sheriff for a period of two (2) years. The Defendant shall undergo a substance abuse evaluation and comply with the treatments recommendations. On September 24, 2011, Brandon Dolphin was stopped on 180th Street for a driving violation. During the course of the stop, an Osceola County Deputy could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage on Dolphin’s breath. Dolphin failed sobriety tests, and tested over .08. Dolphin was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense.
January 13, 2012, Darcy Lea Martinez, age 45 of Sibley, Iowa, pled guilty to two (2) counts of Theft 2nd Degree, a Class “D” Felony. The Defendant is to pay a fine of $12,289.60, the cost of this action, restitution of any court appointed attorney fees, and victim restitution, if any. The judgment is deferred pending successful completion of the probation requirements. The Defendant is placed on formal probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for a period of two (2) years. The Defendant shall successfully complete a Victim Empathy course. From October 2008 to December 2010, Darcy Martinez submitted false payroll claims with the intent to deprive her place of employment.
January 6, 2012, Matthew Melvin Simons, age 40 of Melvin, Iowa, was arrested for allegedly Driving While Revoked, a Serious Misdemeanor; and Driving While Suspended, a Simple Misdemeanor. The arrest stems from a traffic stop east of Ashton. Simons was booked into the Osceola County Jail where he posted a $1,300 cash bond and was released.
January 5, 2012, Colleen Harms, age 61 of Sibley, Iowa, was driving a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire, northbound on 2nd Avenue, approaching the intersection of 5th Street in Sibley, Iowa. Sonya Duis, age 50 of Ocheyedan, Iowa, was driving a 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue, and was stopped on 5th Street. Duis allegedly seen Harms had her right blinker on and assumed that Harms was going to turn left onto 5th Street. Duis proceeded through the intersection and collided with Harms’ vehicle. Harms’ vehicle sustained approximately $500 damage. Duis’ vehicle sustained approximately $1,000 damage, and was given a citation for Fail to Yield upon Left Turn. No injuries were reported.
December 30, 2011, Ricky Melvin Loeschen, age 58 of Harris, Iowa, pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated 1st offense, a Serious Misdemeanor. The Defendant is to pay a fine of $1,797.50, the cost of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees, if any. The Defendant is sentenced to imprisonment in the Osceola County Jail for a term of one (1) year, with all time suspended except for two (2) days. The Defendant is placed on informal probation to the Osceola County Sheriff for a period of two (2) years. The Defendant shall undergo a substance abuse evaluation and comply with the treatments recommendations. On November 27, 2011, Ricky Loeschen was stopped on Hwy 59 and 140th Street for a driving violation. An Osceola County Deputy observed Loeschen had bloodshot and watery eyes; his pupils were dilated, and could detect an odor of alcohol coming from his breath. Loeschen failed sobriety tests and tested over .08. Loeschen was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated.
December 25, 2011, Jay Allen Kieft, age 52 of Spicer, Minnesota, was driving a 1999 Oldsmobile, northbound on Hwy 60, south of 230th Street, and struck a deer on the roadway. Kieft’s vehicle sustained approximately $3,500 damage. No injuries were reported.
December 25, 2011, Brandon Wayne Janssen, age 29 of Spencer, Iowa, was arrested on an Osceola County warrant for Theft 5th Degree on Failure to Pay, a Simple Misdemeanor. Janssen was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $300 cash bond.
December 24, 2011, Garrett Richard Crowl, age 21 of Ashton, Iowa, was arrested by an Osceola County Deputy for allegedly Operating While Intoxicated, 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor. Crowl was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $1,000 cash bond. The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop for speeding on Hwy 60 near Ashton.
December 23, 2011, John Russell Tracy, age 21 of George, Iowa, was driving a 1995 Chevy pickup, southbound on McKinley Avenue, north of 230th Street, when his vehicle went off the left side of the road and entered the east ditch. The vehicle just missed a bridge guard rail, went air born until it struck the embankment of a creek bed. The vehicle, owned by Austin Vonk of Sioux Center, Iowa, sustained approximately $5,000 damage. Tracy was taken by Ashton Ambulance to the Osceola Community Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries. The Ashton Ambulance and Ashton Fire and Rescue, assisted the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
December 23, 2011, William Robert Rentsch, age 40 of Sioux Rapids was arrested by an Osceola County Deputy and allegedly charged with; Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, Open Container, and Driving on Wrong Side of Two-Way Highway, both Simple Misdemeanors. Rentsch was booked into the Osceola County Jail and is currently being held on a $2,600 cash bond. The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop south of Sibley after the Deputy observed Rentsch driving northbound in the southbound lane of Highway 60.
December 20, 2011, Chad Thomas Ackerman, age 45 of Sibley, Iowa, was arrested on an Osceola County warrant for Failure to Pay Child Support, a Serious Misdemeanor. Ackerman posted a $1,000 cash bond and was released.
December 19, 2011, Tracy Lee Peterson, age 22 of Sibley, Iowa, was arrested on an Osceola County warrant for a Probation Revocation for Operating Without Owner’s Consent, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. Peterson was also charged with Driving While Suspended, Operating without Registration, Failure to Prove Security against Liability, Trespassing, and Theft 5th Degree, all Simple Misdemeanors. The additional charges stem from an Osceola County Deputy observing Peterson driving to a local business and then fled on foot, leaving the vehicle. Peterson was located and arrested the following day. Peterson was booked into the Osceola County Jail and being held on a $3,500 cash bond.
December 17, 2011, Loralye Wibben, age 30 of Rock Valley, Iowa, was arrested for allegedly Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor. Wibben’s was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $1,000 cash bond. The arrest stems from a traffic stop for a driving violation on 170th Street and Nettle Avenue.
December 16, 2011, Jesse Richardson, age 22 of Sibley, Iowa, pled guilty to Supplying Alcohol to Persons Under Legal Age, a Serious Misdemeanor. The Defendant is to pay a total fine of $775.00, the cost of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees, if any. The Defendant is sentenced to imprisonment in the Osceola County Jail for a term of ninety (90) days, with all time suspended and placed on informal probation to the Osceola County Sheriff for a period of two (2) years. On October 28, 2011, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office received information of an underage drinking party in Sibley, Iowa. Following an investigation, Jesse Richardson was cited for Supplying Alcohol to Persons under the Legal Age.
December 16, 2011, Dylan Eugene Schafer, age 20 of Revillo, South Dakota, pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor. The Defendant is to pay a fine of $1,797.50, the cost of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees, if any. The Defendant is sentenced to imprisonment in the Osceola County Jail for a period of one (1) year, with all time suspended except for two (2) days and placed on informal probation to the Osceola County Sheriff for a period of two (2) years. The Defendant shall undergo a substance abuse evaluation and comply with the treatments recommendations. On August 1, 2011, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office investigated an accident on 9th Street West by the Osceola County Fairgrounds in Sibley, Iowa. The driver, Dylan Schafer, left the scene of the accident and was later located at the Super 8 Motel. An Osceola County Deputy observed an odor of alcohol on or about Schafer’s breath. Schafer also had a bloody nose and recent scratches on his hands. Schafer failed sobriety tests and tested over.08. Schafer was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated.
December 16, 2011, John Matthew Pedersen, age 29 of Sanborn, Iowa, pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor. The Defendant is to pay a fine of $1,837.50, the cost of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees, if any. The Defendant is sentenced to imprisonment in the Osceola County Jail for a period of one (1) year, with all time suspended except for two (2) days and placed on informal probation to the Osceola County Sheriff for a period of two (2) years. The Defendant shall undergo a substance abuse evaluation and comply with the treatments recommendations. On June 26, 2011, John Pedersen was stopped on Hwy 60 and 270th Street for a driving violation. An Osceola County Deputy detected an odor of alcohol coming from Pedersen’s breath. Pedersen failed sobriety tests and tested over .08. Pedersen was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated.
December 15, 2011, Candis Kaye Antelope, age 43 of Ocheyedan, was arrested by an Osceola County Deputy for allegedly being intoxicated in public, a Simple Misdemeanor. Antelope was booked into the Osceola County Jail and is currently being held on a $300 cash bond.
December 14, 2011, Jodi Ann Ackerman, age 28, of Sibley, Iowa was arrested on the charge of Domestic Assault, a Simple Misdemeanor. Ackerman was arrested at a residence in Sibley, Iowa and transported to the Osceola County Jail where she is being held on a $300 bond.
December 13, 2011, Carmelino Lopez Moreno, age 34 of Sibley, was arrested by an Osceola County Deputy for the alleged charges; Failure to have a valid license, Failure to prove security against liability and Open container (all Simple Misdemeanors). Deputies also arrested Lucio Lopez Cruz, age 21 of Sibley, for allegedly possessing an open container. Both subjects were booked into the Osceola County Jail and are being held on cash bonds. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency which placed a detainer on both of them. The arrests stemmed from a traffic stop in Sibley.
December 11, 2011, Jess Nichols, age 54 of Spirit Lake, Iowa, was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, westbound on Hwy 9, east of Sorrel Avenue and collided with a deer on the roadway. Nichols' vehicle sustained approximately $2,500 damage. No injuries were reported.
December 10, 2011, Angel Alfredo Escobar Cifuentes, age 24, of Sibley, Iowa was arrested for allegedly Operating While Intoxicated 4th Offense, a Class “D” Felony, Driving While Barred, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, and Driving While Suspended, a Simple Misdemeanor. Escobar was booked into the Osceola County Jail and held on a $7,300 cash bond.
December 9, 2011, David Kollasch, age 59 of Swea City, Iowa, was driving a 2008 Dodge van, westbound on Hwy 9, west of Starling Avenue and collided with a deer on the roadway. Kollasch's vehicle sustained approximately $5,000 damage. No injuries were reported.
December 3, 2011, Denise Van Engen, age 22 of Sibley, Iowa, was driving a 1992 Chevrolet Cavalier, westbound on 10th Street, approaching 4th Avenue in Sibley, Iowa. Leticia Deleon-Miralrio, age 47 of Sibley, Iowa, was driving a 2000 Mercury Sable, southbound on 4th Avenue. Due to the snow on the roadway, Deleon-Miralrio was not able to stop completely at the stop sign and slid through the intersection, causing a collision with Van Engen’s vehicle. Van Engen’s vehicle sustained approximately $800 damage. Deleon-Miralrio’s vehicle sustained approximately $2,500 damage and was given a citation for Failure to Yield upon Entering through Highway. No injuries were reported.
December 3, 2011, Joseph Edward Stitt, age 22 of Hawarden, Iowa, was driving a 2000 Ford Explorer, eastbound on 4th Street, approaching the intersection of 3rd Avenue in Ashton, Iowa. Alicia Diane Bradbury, age 22 of Ashton, Iowa, was driving a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville, southbound on 3rd Avenue and failed to yield to Stitt’s vehicle, causing a collision in the intersection. Stitt’s vehicle sustained approximately $2,500 damage. Bradbury’s vehicle sustained approximately $3,500 damage and was given a citation for Failure to Yield to Vehicle on the Right. No injuries were reported.
December 2, 2011, Wayne Charles Barahona, age 28 of Sheldon, Iowa, was found guilty of Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor. The Defendant is to pay a fine of $765, the cost of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees, if any. The Defendants judgment is deferred, and placed on informal probation to the Osceola County Sheriff for a period of two (2) years. On August 7, 2011, Wayne Barahona was stopped on Hwy 60 for a traffic violation. An Osceola County Deputy observed Barahona’s eyes were bloodshot and his pupils were dilated, and had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. Barahona failed sobriety tests and tested over .08. Barahona was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated.
