July 26, 2014, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office investigated an ATV accident that occurred northeast of Ocheyedan.  Thad Schubert Bosma, 34, of Lake Park, IA, was treated at the Worthington Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Bosma was charged with allegedly Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor.

July 25, 2014, Myles Lynn Paplow, 25, of Rushmore, MN, was found guilty of Burglary in the 3rd Degree, a Class D Felony and False Imprisonment, a Serious Misdemeanor committed on February 10, 2014.  Defendant is sentenced to the custody of the Department of Corrections for a term not to exceed 5 years for the felony charge, however this sentence is suspended and the Defendant is placed on formal probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for 3 years.  For the False Imprisonment charge the Defendant is sentenced to 90 days in the Osceola County Jail with all time suspended except for 39 days already served during a formal probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for 2 years.  Defendant is to pay fines and costs of $425.25 plus any restitution of all court appointed attorney fees and victim restitution, if any.

July 23, 2014, Dolly Anel Vega Rosas, 23, of Sheldon, IA, was found guilty of having No Driver's License.  She is to pay fines and surcharges of $675 and also pay the costs of this action and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  Defendant is sentenced to 30 days in the Osceola County Jail with 28 days suspended during a 2 year formal probation to the Sheriff. 

July 11, 2014, Corey David Ness, 34, of Ashton, IA, plead guilty to Failure to Comply with Iowa Sex Offender Registry Requirements, committed on January 24, 2014.  Defendant is to pay fines and charges of $877.50 plus any restitution for court appointed attorney fees.  He is sentenced to 180 days in the Osceola County Jail with 150 days suspended during a 2 year formal probation to the Sheriff.

July 11, 2014, Paige Mackenzie Dykstra a/k/a Paige Mackenzie Dather, 26, of Melvin, IA, plead guilty to Operating While Intoxicated, 2nd Offense, committed on May 14, 2014.  Defendant is to pay fines and charges of $2507.50 and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  She is sentenced to 58 days in jail with all but 8 days suspended during a 2 year formal probation to the Sheriff. 

July 10, 2014, Pedro Orozco, 43, of Sioux Rapids, IA, was arrested by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office in Sibley.  Orozco was charged in Buena Vista County with Felony Willful Injury, stemming from an incident in Sioux Rapids.  Pedro Orozco was taken into custody without incident after officers were informed that Orozco could be at a residence in Sibley.

July 5, 2014, at approximately 01:45 AM, Justin Ray Sheehan, age 20 of Sioux Falls, South Dakota was arrested by an Osceola County Deputy for allegedly Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense (Serious Misdemeanor).  Sheehan and his passenger, Breanna Jean Miller, age 20 of Sioux Falls were both cited for Person Under Legal Age (Simple Misdemeanor) and transported to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.  Sheehan was booked into the Osceola County Jail and held on a $1,000 bond. 
The arrest stemmed from an investigation of a vehicle without any lights turned on parked on Highway 60 south of Ashton.
While Miller waited for her ride in the lobby of the Sheriff's Office, she created a disturbance and was also booked into jail.  Miller was charged for alleged Disorderly Conduct, a Simple Misdemeanor.  Miller was released after posting a $300 bond.

June 21, 2014, 9:25AM, at the Osceola County Fairgrounds, Sibley, IA, Kendall Boernsen, 17, of Ocheyedan, IA, was driving a 1992 Ford Ranger and exiting the fenced area of the fairgounds.  Because of the high fence he failed to see Matthew Helmers, 42, of Melvin, IA driving a 2004 Chevy K2500.  Helmers slammed on the brakes and was completely stopped when Boernsen collided with his vehicle.  No one was injured.

June 18, 2014, 5:25PM, 1 mile east of Sibley at Pierce Ave & Ag Street, Sibley, IA, Norman Wheeler, 82, of Sibley, IA was driving a 2010 Chrysler turning south from Ag St onto Pierce Ave when he observed another vehicle northbound and began backing up.  Melanie VanGelder, 37, of Ocheyedan, IA, was stopped at the intersection behind Wheeler's vehicle.  Wheeler backed into VanGelder as she honked her horn trying to get his attention.  There were no injuries.  Wheeler was cited for Unsafe Backing. 

June 18, 2014, 8:45AM, on 5th St 1/4 miles west of 2nd Ave, Sibley, IA, Clint Metzger, 45, of Larchwood, IA, was pulling a 1989 Merrit Trailer east on A22, missed his turn and started to back up on the roadway.  Lori Renken, 47, of Sibley, IA was eastbound in a 2003 Saturn behind the trailer, saw the trailer backing up and started to backup also but had to stop because there was a third vehicle behind her.  Metzger backed into the Renken vehicle.  There was no damage to the trailer.  There was $5000 damage to the Saturn.  There were no injuries.

June 16, 2014, 6:30PM, 6 miles west of Ocheyedan on 160th St, Jordan Edward Brist, 22, of Watertown, SD was driving a 1997 Pontiac southbound on Silver Ave when he lost control of the vehicle, driving through a large mud puddle.  He collided with a utility pole on the east side of the road.  There were no injuries.  Brist was cited for Failure to Maintain Control. 

June 20, 2014, Joseph Lee Daggett, 27, of George, IA, plead guilty to Criminal Mischief in the 3rd Degree.  Defendant is to pay a fine of $625 plus court costs, surcharges, restitution of all court appointed attorney fees.  Defendant is sentenced to 1 year in the Osceola County Jail with all time suspended during a 2 year formal probation to the Dept. Of Corrections, but as a condition of this suspended sentence, the Defendant is ordered to complete the Residential Treatment Facility program at the RTF in Sheldon, IA. 

June 16, 2014, Dennis Louis Barie, Jr., 28, of Melvin, IA, plead guilty to Operating Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance and/or Alcohol, 1st Offense, committed on March 10, 2014.  Defendant is to pay a fine of $1250 plus surcharges and court costs and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  Defendant is sentenced to 60 days in the Osceola County Jail with all time suspended except for 2 days during a 2 year formal probation to the Sheriff. 

June 16, 2014, William Rufus Highbear, 47, of Yankton, SD, plead guilty to Domestic Abuse Assault.  Defendant is to pay court costs and court appointed attorney fees, if any, and victim restitution, if any.  Defendant shall participate in an approved Iowa Domestic Abuse Program at the defendant's expense.  Defendant shall be confined to the Osceola County Jail for 30 days with all time suspended except for 5 days, 17 hrs 49 minutes served since his arrest June 10, 2014, during a 2 year formal probation to the Sheriff.

June 16, 2014, Antonio Castro Gonzalez, 44, of Sibley, IA, plead guilty to Operating While Intoxicated, 2nd Offense, committed on May 24, 2014.  Defendant is to pay a fine of $1850, plus surcharges and court costs and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  He is sentenced to imprisonment in the Osceola County Jail fpr 90 days with all but 7 days suspended during a 2 year formal probation to the Sheriff. 

June 15, 2014, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office arrested Chase Lee Mangel, 23, of Luverne MN.  Mr. Mangel was transported to the Osceola County Jail for allegedly Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor.  The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop east of Sibley.

June 8, 2014, at approximately 1:30AM, Criserio Perez Vazquez, 28, of Sibley, IA was arrested by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office and charged with Domestic Abuse, a Simple Misdemeanor for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend at their apartment in Sibley.  Perez Vazques is being held at the Osceola County Jail on a $300 bond.

June 8, 2014, Tamara Ellen Kruger, 31, of Ashton IA was arrested by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.  Kruger was charged with 5th Degree Criminal Mischief, a Simple Misdemeanor for allegedly causing damage inside a residence east of Ashton the evening of June 6, 2014.  Kruger was released after posting a $300 bond.

June 2, 2014, Michael Anthony Hangman, 28, of Sibley, IA plead guilty to Disorderly Conduct.  The defendant is ordered to pay a fine of of $100.00, a criminal penalty surcharge of thirty-five (35) percent and the court costs of this case.  He is also sentenced to thirty (30) days in jail with all thirty (30) days suspended as probation to the Magistrate Court for a period of two years.

June 2, 2014, Johnathan Douglas Oldenkamp, 21, of Little Rock, IA plead guilty to Domestic Abuse Assault and Criminal Mischief 5th Degree.  The defendant is ordered to pay a criminal penalty surcharge of thirty-five (35) percent and the court costs of this case.  He is sentenced to thirty (30) days in jail with twenty-eight (28) days suspended for two (2) years with credit for time already served.  The defendant shall participate in and successfully complete an approved Iowa Domestic Abuse Program at his expense.

June 1, 2014, Jesus Martinez, 36, of Sibley, IA was arrested by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.  Martinez was charged with Disorderly Conduct, a simple misdemeanor after an alleged altercation at the American Legion in Sibley.  He was booked and released after posting a $300 bond.

June 1, 2014, Jose Ramon Tavarez de Leon, 27, of Paullina, IA was arrested by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.  Tavarez de Leon was charged with Disorderly Conduct, a simple misdemeanor after an alleged altercation at the American Legion in Sibley.  He was booked and released after posting a $300 bond.

May 29, 2014, Lloyd Vernon Jenkins, 48, of Ashton, IA was arrested by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.  Mr. Jenkins was charged with Domestic Abuse, a simple misdemeanor for allegedly assaulting his wife at their apartment in Ashton.  Mr. Jenkins was held on a $300 bond and was also detained for 2 Sioux County warrants with a $5000 bond.

May 18, 2014, Angela Marie Heideman, 31, of Sibley, IA was arrested by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office for the alleged offenses;  Driving While Revoked, Driving While Suspended, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanors), Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana 3rd or subsequent (aggravated misdemeanor),  Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver-Methamphetamines (class C felony).  Ms. Heideman is being held on a $10,000 bond.  The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop on 2nd Avenue and 11th Street in Sibley.  Ms. Heideman was also detained for a Sioux County warrant with a bond of $7500.

May 26, 2014, 7:33PM, 1/2 mile north of Ashton on Hwy 60, Zachary Specht, 20, of Marcus, IA, was driving a 2002 Pontiac southbound on Hwy 60 when he said he fell asleep.  The driver felt the rumble strips and over corrected causing him to lose control and collide with the west side of the bridge.  Osceola County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Ashton Fire Dept and Ambulance.  The driver was not injured.  Specht was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.  The Pontiac had $4000 damage.

May 26, 2014, 5:30AM, 1 mile north of Allendorf on Hwy 9 and 1/4 mile east of Hwy 59, Amanda Bainbridge, 35, of Kingsley, IA, was driving a 2011 Chevy westbound on Hwy 9 when a deer ran on the road causing the vehicle to strike the deer.  Bainbridge was not injured.  The Chevy sustained $6500 damage.

May 24, 2014, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office arrested Antonio Gonzalez Castro, 44, of Sibley, IA.  Castro was charged with allegedly Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated 2nd Offense, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.  Castro was also charged with Failure to Have a Valid Driver's License, a Simple Misdemeanor.  Castro was stopped and issued a warning in Sibley for stopping, standing and reversing on the roadway.

May 23, 2014, 3:29PM, Aloyus Alfred Anfinson, 80 of Park Rapids, MN, was driving a 1985 Cadillac southbound on Hwy 60 near 120th St when he drove off the highway to the right.  The vehicle followed the grade of the ditch for approximately 189 feet before striking the embankment next to 2 round cement culverts.  The vehicle spun approximately 180 degrees and came to rest.  Driver of the vehicle and his dog were pronounced dead at the scene.

May 19, 2014, Jordan Jeffery Clark, 23, of Hartley, IA, plead guilty to Failure to Maintain Control.  Defendant is to pay a fine of $200 plus surcharges, court costs and restitution for court appointed attorney's fees. 

May 19, 2014, Markus Gregory Peterson, 40, of Ocheyedan, IA, plead guilty to Harassment 3rd Degree.  Defendant is sentenced to 30 days in jail, with all time suspended as informal probation to the Magistrate Court for a period of 2 years.

May 19, 2014, Deidra Lynn Osberg, 42, of Sibley, IA, plead guilty to Driving While License Under Suspension.  Defendant is ordered to pay a fine of $250 and surcharges and court costs.

May 18, 2014, Osceola County Sheriff's Office arrested Johnathan Douglas Oldenkamp, 21, of Ashton, IA, for allegedly committing the crimes of Domestic Assault, a simple misdemeanor and Criminal Mischief 5th Degree, a simple misdemeanor.  Defendant was jailed at the Osceola County Jail and later released on his own recognizance subject to a No Contact Order.

May 17, 2014, 10:40pm, 2 miles East of Ocheyedan, IA, Christopher Lowery, 44, of Arnolds Park, IA, was driving a 1994 Ford F150 Eastbound on Hwy 9 when he lost control and drove into the south ditch.  The vehicle struck a culvert and ramped a private driveway.  The vehicle then landed nose first causing more damage.  There was $8500 damage to the vehicle.  Lowery was charged with allegedly having Failure to Maintain Control and OWI 2nd Offense.

May 14, 2014, Fernando Flores Vasquez, 31, of Estherville, IA, plead guilty to Operating While Intoxicated, 1st Offense, a serious misdemeanor.  Defendant is to pay a fine of $1250, surcharges and costs of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  He is sentenced to 60 days in the Osceola County Jail with all time suspended except for 2 days during a 2 year formal probation to the Sheriff.

May 14, 2014, Jordan Jeffery Clark, 23, of Hartley, IA, plead guilty to Operating While Intoxicated, 2nd Offense, an aggravated misdemeanor.  Defendant is to pay a fine of $1850, surcharges and costs of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  He is sentenced to 1 year in the Osceola County Jail with all but 10 days suspended during a 2 year formal probation to the Sheriff. 

May 11th, 2014, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office arrested Hugo Campo Morales, age 28 of Sheldon, Iowa.  Mr. Campo Morales was transported to the Osceola County Jail for allegedly Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor.  He was also issued a citation for not having a valid driver’s license.  The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop north of Ashton on Hwy 60. Mr. Campo Morales is being held in the Osceola County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

May 11th, 2014, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office arrested Mark Gregory Peterson, age 40 at his residence in Ocheyedan, Iowa.  Mr. Peterson was transported to the Osceola County Jail and charged with Harassment, a Simple Misdemeanor after he allegedly called and harassed a male and female early Sunday morning.  Mr. Peterson is being held in the Osceola County Jail on a $500 bond.

May 4, 2014, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office arrested Paige Mackenzie Dather, 26, of Melvin, IA for allegedly Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense, an aggravated misdemeanor.  Dather was also given a citation for Open Container, a simple misdemeanor.  The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop north of Melvin.

April 30, 2014,  the Osceola County Sheriff's Office arrested Samuel Henry Seivert, 36, of Sibley, IA.  Seivert was charged with allegedly Driving While Barred, an aggravated misdemeanor; Driving While Revoked, a simple misdemeanor; Driving While Suspended, a simple misdemeanor.  Seivert was also charged with the alleged Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana, 3rd offense, an aggravated misdemeanor; and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.  Seivert is currently being held in the Osceola County Jail on a bond of $4900.

April 26, 2014, an Osceola County Sheriff’s Deputy arrested Donna Lee Hanson, age 54 of Ocheyedan, Iowa. Hanson was arrested and transported to the Osceola County Jail for allegedly Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop for a moving violation east of Sibley on A22. Hanson is being held in the Osceola County Jail on a $2000 bond.

April 26th, 2014, an Osceola County Sheriff’s Deputy arrested Jonathan Peter Allen, age 24 of Omaha, Nebraska.  Allen was arrested and transported to the Osceola County Jail for allegedly Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor.  The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop for a moving violation north of Sibley on L40.  Allen is being held in the Osceola County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

April 21st, 2014, an Osceola County Sheriff’s Deputy filed charges against Dennis Louis Barie Jr, age 38 of Melvin, Iowa for allegedly Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense and Unlawful Possession of a Prescription Drug, both Serious Misdemeanors.  The charges stemmed from a single vehicle accident that occurred two miles southwest of Ocheyedan on March 10th, 2014 at approximately 10 PM.   

April 14, 2014, Judy Evelyn Stafford, 40, of Sibley, IA was found guilty of Interference with Official Acts, an aggravated misdemeanor and Disorderly Conduct, a simple misdemeanor.  The Defendant is ordered to pay court costs and restitution for court appointed attorney's fees.  The Defendant will receive a 30 day jail sentence with 20 days suspended for the Interference charge and 30 day jail sentence with all time suspended for the Disorderly Conduct charge.  The Defendant will be placed on formal probation to the Osceola County Sheriff for 2 years.

April 14, 2014, Jose Luis Garcia Corona, 30, of  Worthington, MN, was found guilty of Domestic Abuse Assault, a simple misdemeanor.  It is ordered that with the consent of the Defendant and for the reason that the Defendant has no prior criminal history of violence, that the entry of Judgment and pronouncement of sentence is deferred.  The Defendant shall successfully complete an approved Domestic Abuse Program at the defendant's expense.  The Defendant is placed on formal probation to the Sheriff for 1 year.  He must pay all court costs, attorney fees and the Sheriff's room and board fees.

April 11, 2014, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office has filed criminal charges against Michael Lawrence Block, 52, of Sibley, IA.  Block is alleged to be in possession of stolen ag and construction equipment.  Block is charged with  7 counts of Theft in the First Degree, a class C Felony, 10 counts of Theft in the 2nd Degree, a class D Felony, 1 count of Theft in the 3rd Degree, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, and 1 count of Theft in the 4th Degree, a Serious Misdemeanor.  Block is alleged to be in possession of stolen property from Osceola, O'Brien, Sioux and Lyon Counties.  On March 21, 2014, an Osceola County Deputy was investigating the theft of some hay bales from O'Brien County which led to the application and execution of 5 search warrants at Block's acreage on Hwy 59 and his residence in Sibley, IA.  Investigating officers seized a New Holland baler, wagons, construction equipment, trailer 4 motor vehicles and other items.

April 8, 2014, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office along with the Ocheyedan Fire & Rescue, Osceola County Emergency Management, Iowa State Patrol and Iowa DNR investigated a report of a missing individual.  A search of the town of Ocheyedan and the surrounding area resulted in finding the body of John Michael Dirks, 48, in a ditch along Highway 9.  He was pronounced deceased by the Medical Examiner.

April 4, 2014, Regina Deleon Alvarez, 32, of Sibley, IA was arrested on a Minnesota Felony Warrant for Failure to keep in contact with her Agent for the crime of Aggravated Forgery-Utter or Possess Writing/Object.  She is being held in the Osceola County Jail awaiting extradition.

April 4, 2014, Cheyenne Candace Williams, 23, of Sioux Falls, SD pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated, 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor.  Williams is to pay a fine of $1250, a 35% surcharge of $437.50, the costs of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  The Defendant is further sentenced to 60 days in the Osceola County Jail with all time suspended except for 2 days during a 2 year formal probation to the Sheriff, with credit for time already served.

April 4, 2014, Jeffrey Allen Prins, 33, of Sibley, IA pled guilty to Operating While Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance and/or Alcohol, 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor.  Prins is to pay a fine of $1250, a 35% surcharge of $437.50, the costs of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  The Defendant is sentenced to 60 days in the Osceola County Jail with all time suspended except for 2 days which must be served.

April 4, 2014, Michael Thomas Kolbeck, 56, of Ashton, IA pled guilty to Failure To Appear, a Serious Misdemeanor.  Kolbeck is to pay a fine of $315, a 35% surcharge of $110.25, the costs of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  The Defendant is further sentenced to 180 days in the Osceola County Jail, with 150 days suspended during a 2 year formal probation to the Sheriff.  The Defendant presently being required to serve 30 days in jail with credit for time already served on each of the offenses.  This sentence shall be imposed concurrently to the sentence imposed in Osceola Co Criminal No. AGCR005840 with the Defendant presently required to serve a 30 day jail sentence.

April 4, 2014, Michael Thomas Kolbeck, 56, of Ashton, IA pled guilty to Driving Whiled Barred, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.  Kolbeck is to pay a fine of $625, a 35% surcharge of $218.75, costs of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  The Defendant is further sentenced to 180 days in the Osceola County Jail, with 150 days suspended during a 2 year formal probation to the Sheriff.  The Defendant presently being required to serve 30 days in jail with credit for time already served on the offenses.  This sentence shall be imposed concurrently to the sentence imposed in Osceola Co Criminal No. SRCR005867 with  the Defendant presently required to serve a 30 day jail sentence.

April 4, 2014, Scott Anthony Modder, 25, of George, IA pled guilty to Operating While Intoxicated, 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor.  Modder is to pay a fine of $625, a 35% surcharge of $218.75, the costs of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  The Defendant is sentenced to 60 days in the Osceola County Jail with all time suspended except for 2 days during a 2 year informal probation to the Sheriff with credit for time already served.

March 31, 2014, Dale Delane Timmerman, age 50, of Sibley, IA pled guilty to Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card, a class D Felony and Fraudulent use of a Credit Card, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.  Timmerman is to pay a a fine of $1375, Surcharge of $481.25, court costs, correctional fees, and court appointed attorney fees.  The Defendant is sentenced to a five (5) year incarceration and two (2) year incarceration to be served concurrently with credit for time already served. 

March 29, 2014, Luis Pol Gonzalez, 26, of Worthington, MN, was arrested for allegedly Operating While Intoxicated 2nd (Aggravated Misdemeanor), and for having No DL (Simple Misdemeanor).  He is being held at the Osceola County Jail on $2300 cash bond.  The arrested stemmed from a traffic stop in Sibley after a caller reported him driving badly.

March 21, 2014, Matthew Scott Rueter, 41, of Sibley, IA, pled guilty to Gatherings Where Controlled Substances are Used, a Serious Misdemeanor.  The Defendant is to pay a fine of $900, a 35% surcharge of $315, the costs of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  An additional drug abuse resistance education surcharge of $10 is assessed and must also be paid.  The Defendant is further sentenced to 60 days in the Osceola County Jail, with all time suspended during a 2 year formal probation to the Osceola County Sheriff.

March 10, 2014, at 9:59pm 2 miles SW of Ocheyedan on 170th St, Dennis Barie, 38, of Melvin, IA was driving a 1997 Chevy pickup westbound when he struck a deer and ran off the road to the right.  The driver overcorrected and crossed the centerline striking the south side of the bridge guard railing.  Barie was ejected from the vehicle while it returned to the north side of the bridge striking the guard rail on that side also.  Barie was transported to the Osceola Community Hospital by the Sibley Ambulance.  Barie was cited for Failure to Wear Seatbelt, Open Container-Driver, and No Insurance.  There was $6000 damage to the vehicle and $1000 damage to the bridge.

March 7, 2014, at 1:25pm on Hwy 9, 1/4 mile E of Hwy 59, James Egeland, 81, of Spirit Lake, IA was driving a 2001 Ford Ranger eastbound and due to ice on the roadway lost control and entered the north ditch where the vehicle rolled and came to rest on it's side.  There was approximately $3500 damage to the vehicle.  The driver was not injured.

March 6, 2014, at 3:30pm on Hwy 9, 5 miles NW of Sibley, IA, Sebastian Heath, 42, of St Augustine, FL was westbound on Hwy 9, driving a 2006 Freightliner owned by Star Dispatcher LLC of Dallas, TX.  Strong winds from the south was blowing snow onto the roadway causing roadway slushy conditions.  The semi jack-knifed sliding into the south ditch and blocking the roadway.  The driver was not injured. 

March 2, 2014, at 8:45am on L58 1/2 mile S of 200th St near Ocheyedan, IA Philip Bernier, 55, of May City, IA was southbound operating a snowplow when Joshua Fields, 26, of Round Lake, Mn was operating a 1991 Chevy pickup and came up from behind the snowplow and struck the rear of it.  Fields then fled the scene of the accident.  Fields was charged with Following too Close, No SR-22 Insurance, Driving While Barred and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.  Neither driver was injured.  There was no damage to the plow and $4000 damage to the pickup.

March 3, 2014, Jordan Richard Walbaum, age 26, of Melvin, IA, plead guilty to the charge of Theft in the fifth Degree.  The Defendant is sentenced to ten (10) days in the County Jail, with all ten days suspended during a supervised probation agreement with that Office.  The Defendant will also pay a restitution of $125.00 to J.R.'s in Melvin, IA.  He will also pay $60.00 in court costs and he will pay the Sheriff's fees for the Supervised Probation Agreement. 

February 28, 2014, Tyler Scott Davids, age 27, of Sibley, IA, plead guilty to Failure To Comply With Iowa Sex Offender Registry Requirements, an aggravated misdemeanor.  The Defendant is sentenced to 60 days in the Osceola County Jail with 52 days suspended during a 2 year informal probation to the Sheriff.  The Defendant presently being required to serve 8 days in jail, and shall receive credit for 10 hrs 56 minutes already served.  The Defendant is to pay a fine of $625, a 35% surcharge of $218.75, court costs, restitution of all court appointed attorney's fees, and the Sheriff's room and board fee.

February 25, 2014, at 6:54AM an Osceola County Sheriff's Office Deputy responded to a report of an accident.  Dennis Anthony Croatt, age 61, of Granville, IA, was traveling southbound on Nettle Ave approximately 2 miles west of Sibley, IA, when he lost control of his 1995 Ford pickup.  The pickup entered the west ditch and came to rest on it's top.  Croatt was pronounced dead at the scene.  Assisting was the Sibley Ambulance and Sibley Fire and Rescue.  The incident is still under investigation.

February 21, 2014, Samuel Henry Seivert, age 36, of Sibley, IA was found guilty of Driving While Barred, as a Habitual Offender, an aggravated misdemeanor.  The Defendant is to pay a fine of $625.00, a 35% surcharge of $218.75, the costs of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  The Defendant is further sentenced to 90 days in the Osceola County Jail, with 80 days suspended during a 2 year formal probation to the Sheriff.  The Defendant presently being required to serve 10 days in jail with credit for time already served on this offense. 

February 17, 2014, at 7:55am, on Hwy 9 at White Ave near Harris, IA,  Tomas Gabriel-Ramos, age 28, of Okabena, MN, was driving a 2000 GMC owned by Susue Cortez of Little Rock, IA eastbound on Hwy 9 and following Eleazar Morales, age 22, of Worthington, MN, who was also driving eastbound in a 2005 Pontiac owned by Israel Morales, of Worthington, MN.  Morales was going to turn southbound on M18.  His vehicle spun around and he lost control which in turn caused Gabriel-Ramos to collide with his vehicle.  Morales was transported to Lakes Regional Hospital by the Osceola County Ambulance-Ocheyedan.  Ocheyedan Fire Dept also assisted at the scene.  Both drivers were cited for No Drivers License and No Insurance.

February 9, 2014, Dolly Anel Vega Rosas, age 23, of Sheldon, IA, was arrested by an Osceola County Deputy for allegedly Driving While Revoked (Serious Misdemeanor) and Driving While Suspended (Simple Misdemeanor).  The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop for an equipment violation in Sibley.

January 31, 2014, Mark Anthony Knudson, age 50, of Sibley, IA, plead guilty to Operating While Intoxicated, First Offense, a serious misdemeanor.  The Defendant is to pay a fine of $1250, a 35% surcharge of $437.50, the costs of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  The Defendant is sentenced to 60 days in the Osceola County Jail with all time suspended except for 2 days during a 2 year formal probation to the Sheriff with credit for time already served. 

January 25, 2014, Jake John Eledge, age 26, of Harris, IA plead guilty to Domestic Abuse Assault, a Simple Misdemeanor.  The Defendant is to pay court costs, and court appointed attorney fees, if any, and victim restitution.  The Defendant is also ordered to participate in an approved Iowa Domestic Abuse Program and his expense.  He is sentenced to thirty (30) days in the Osceola County Jail with all time suspended except for two (2) days that must be served with credit for time already served.  The Defendant is also placed on formal probation for a period of two (2) years to the Osceola County Sheriff.  On October 28, 2013 an the Osceola County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic violence call in Harris, IA.

January 24, 2014, Ashley Kay Silberstein, age 26, of Sheldon, IA was found guilty for Failure to Appear, a Serious Misdemeanor committed on or about September 29,2011 through at least January 25,2013. The Defendant is to pay a fine of $1,000, a thirty-five percent (35%) surcharge of $350, the costs of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  The Defendant is sentenced to sixty (60) days in the Osceola County Jail with fifty (50) days suspended during a two (2) year formal probation to the Sheriff and the Defendant presently being required to serve ten (10) days in jail with credit for time already served.  The Defendant was also found guilty of No Driver's License, a Simple Misdemeanor.  She is ordered to pay a fine of $200 and a thiry-five percent (35%) surcharge for $70.

 

January 12, 2014, an Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Deputy arrested Mark Knudson, 50, of Sibley, IA, for the offenses of Careless Driving (a Simple Misdemeanor) and OWI First Offense (a Serious Misdemeanor).  The Sheriff’s Office received a call that there was a vehicle in the ditch on L40 north of 130th St.  During the accident investigation it was found that Knudson allegedly lost control of his vehicle causing it to roll over in the ditch.  It was also found that Knudson was allegedly Operating the Vehicle While Intoxicated.  Knudson is currently in the Osceola County Jail on a $1300 bond.

January 7, 2014, 9:35am, Marie Pedersen, age 42, of Sibley, IA was driving a 2002 Pontiac owned by Warren VanWesten, also of Sibley, southbound on L40.  She was stopped at a stop sign at Hwy 9 and failed to see Robert Oliveira, age 59, of Tonasket, WA heading westbound on Hwy 9 in a 2012 Peterbilt owned by Western Provisions of Sioux Falls, SD.  Pedersen pulled out in front of the Peterbilt causing a broadside collision.  There were no injuries.  The Pontiac had $2000 damage and the Peterbilt sustained $10,000 damage.  Pedersen was cited for No Driver License, Failure to Yield and No Registration.  Sibley Fire & Rescue assisted at the scene.

January 4, 2014, 6:45am, at hwy 60 & Oriole Ave, Steven Christensen, age 54, of Okoboji, IA was driving a 2007 Lexus southbound on Hwy 60 when a deer entered the roadway causing a collision.  There was $10,000 damage to the Lexus but Christensen was not injured.

January 2, 2014, 7:55pm, at 2nd Ave & 11th St in Sibley, IA,  Ricky Amnatka, age 19, of Sheldon, IA was driving a 2008 Toyota westbound on 11th St and slid through the stop sign causing him to collide with Amy Dykstra, age 34, of Sibley, IA.  She was driving a 2002 Ford southbound on 2nd Ave.  There was $6500 damage to the Toyota and $2500 damage to the Ford.  There were no injuries.

January 2, 2014, 4:44am, at A48 & M12, John Alt, age 24, of Sheldon, IA was driving a 1998 Chevy northbound on M12.  His vehicle left the roadway and continued northbound in the ditch, collided with a bridge embankment, went airborne over the bridge, clipping a signpost and came to rest north of the bridge against the west creek bank.  Melvin and Ashton Ambulances and rescue assisted in the extrication and rescue.  Alt was transported to the Osceola Community Hospital and transferred to a Sioux Falls Hospital with serious injuries.  Alt was cited with Failure to Maintain Control.  There was $8000 damage to his vehicle.

December 29th, 2013, Michael Anthony Pedersen, age 56 of Little Rock was charged with the alleged offense of Possession of a Controlled Substance following an investigation.

December 27, 2013, Robert Glen Joens, age 45, of Harris, IA, was found guilty of the crime of No Driver's License committed on November 22, 2013.  Defendant is to pay a fine of $625 and a 35% surcharge of $218.75,  costs of this action, victim restitution, if any and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  The Defendant is sentenced to thirty (30) days in the Osceola County Jail with twenty-six (26) days suspended during a two (2) year formal probation to the Sheriff.  The Sheriff's Office performed a traffic stop after receiving an anonymous tip that Joens was driving without a valid license.

December 18, 2013,  Dylan James Foster, age 20, of Sibley, IA plead guilty to Harassment in the Second Degree, a Serious Misdemeanor committed on August 23, 2013.  The Defendant is to pay a fine of $315, a thirty-five  percent (35%) surcharge of $110.25, the costs of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  The Defendant is further sentenced to one hundred eighty (180) days in the Osceola County Jail with all time suspended during a two year informal probation to the Sheriff except for sixty-two (62) days with credit for sixty-two (days) already served.  On August 23, 2013 sheriff's deputies responded to a harassment complaint at a residence in Sibley.

December 16, 2013, 12:40pm Douglas Bauer, age 59, of Sioux Falls, SD, was driving a 2013 Mercedes owned by SAE Warehouse, also of Sioux Falls, and was northbound on Hwy 60 near Bigelow, MN, when a gust of wind caught the high profile vehicle and forced it into the east ditch.  There were no injuries.  The vehicle sustained approximately $900 damage.

December 16, 2013, The Magistrate Court finds that the dog belonging to the Chris Runge family did bite a citizen without provocation and therefore fits the definition of Vicious Animal under the Sibley City Code.  This finding having been made, it is the duty of the Court to complete the judgment as provided by the Code of Sibley.  Because of the testimony of the Runge Family regarding their effort to make the premises more safe from such attacks in the time being, and in consideration of the bond between the dog and her owners, The Court will continue the completion of this judgment until February 3, 2014 at 10:00am to allow the family time to relocate the dog to a home outside the city limits, and thus make the destruction of the dog unnecessary.  The defendant will pay all court costs and witness fees in this matter.

December 13, 2013, Paul Mitchell Nasers, age 23, of Sibley, IA, has plead guilty to Possession With The Intent to Manufacture or Deliver Marijuana, a Class D Felony and Possession of Methamphetamine, a Serious Misdemeanor committed on March 4, 2013.  Defendant is to pay the minimum fine of $1065 and a 35% surcharge of $372.75, court costs, and restitution of all court appointed attorney fees.  For the Felony charge defendant is sentenced to the custody  of the Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections for a term not to exceed 5 years, however, this sentence if incarceration is suspended and the Defendant is placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for a period of 2 years.  For the Serious Misdemeanor the defendant is sentenced to 20 days in the Osceola County Jail with work release being authorized for verified employment.

December 13, 2013, Marc Daniel Gibbons, age 25, of Sanborn, IA, was found guilty of Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense committed on June 11, 2013.  Defendant is to pay a fine of $1850, a 35% surcharge of $647.50, the costs of this action, restitution of any court appointed attorney fees and a drug abuse resistance education surcharge of $10.  He is sentenced to two (2) years in prison with all but seven (7) days suspended during a two (2) year formal probation to the Department of Corrections.  The Defendant is ordered to undergo a substance abuse evaluation and participate and cooperate in such counseling as recommended.  He is also to complete a course for drinking drivers.  The defendant was arrested after a report of an accident in Ashton, IA.

 

December 10, 2013, at 12:00pm in Sibley, IA, Michael Appledorn, 47, of Sibley, IA, was driving a 2004 Chevy, owned by Cooperative Energy, southbound and stopped at the stop sign at 9th Ave & 9th St when Michael Keninger, 16, of Sibley, IA, who was driving a 1994 Chevy, was unable to stop due to the ice on the roadway and rear ended the 2004 Chevy.  There were no injuries.  There was no damage to the 2004 Chevy and Keninger's vehicle had approximately $1500 damage.

December 9, 2013, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office filed charges against Thomas Charles Zylstra, 46, of Sibley, for Operating Without Owner's Consent.  It is alleged that on November 18, 2013, Zylstra operated a piece of farm machinery owned by someone else without the owner's permission.  Operating Without the Owner's Consent is an Aggravated Misdemeanor.

December 2, 2013, Fernando Baez Rojas, age 32, of Sibley, IA plead guilty to Driving While License Under Suspension.  Defendant is ordered to pay a fine of $250, a criminal surcharge of 35% and the court costs of this case.

December 2, 2013, Nicholas John Klatt, age 34, of Melvin, IA, was found guilty of Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense (Serious Misdemeanor). Defendant shall be confined in the Plymouth County Jail for a term of thirty (30) days with credit for time already served.  He is ordered to pay a fine of $1250 and a $10 D.A.R.E surcharge.

December 2, 2013 at 07:30 in Sibley, IA David Henningson, 58, of Sibley, IA was backing a 2009 Chevy K1500 belonging to Osceola County Rural Water System from a parking space in front of Casey’s and failed to see Abby Lammers, 24, also of Sibley, IA who had just pulled up and properly parked her 1998 Ford Crown Vic.  Henningson sideswiped the Ford belonging to Lammers.  There was no damage to the Chevy and approximately $500 damage to the Ford.  No one was injured.

November 20, 2013, Pablo Rogelio Marchessini, age 26, of Sibley, IA, was found guilty of Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense (Serious Misdemeanor) committed on June 9, 2013.  Defendant is to pay a fine of $1250, a 35% surcharge of $437.50, the costs of this action, restitution of any court appointed attorney fees and a drug abuse resistance education surcharge of $10.  He is sentenced to 180 days in the Osceola County Jail with all time suspended except for 2 days during a 2 year formal probation to the Sheriff.  The Defendant is ordered to undergo a substance abuse evaluation and participate and cooperate in such counseling as recommended.  He is also to complete a course for drinking drivers.  This charge stemmed from a traffic stop during which the defendant was found to be intoxicated.

November 15, 2013, Tara Marie Ferguson, age 22, of Ashton, IA, was found guilty of Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense (Serious Misdemeanor) committed on October 19, 2013.  Defendant is to pay a fine of $1250, a 35% surcharge of $437.50, the costs of this action, restitution of any court appointed attorney fees and a drug abuse resistance education surcharge of $10.  She is sentenced to 180 days in the Osceola County Jail with all time suspended except for 2 days during a 2 year informal probation to the Sheriff.  The Defendant is ordered to undergo a substance abuse evaluation and participate and cooperate in such counseling as recommended.  She is also to complete a course for drinking drivers.  This charge stemmed from an arrest October 19, when the Defendant was operating a vehicle while intoxicated in Sibley, IA.

 

October 19, 2013, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office arrested Christopher Renner, 23, of Sibley, IA.  Renner was charged with allegedly Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated 2nd Offense, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.  Renner was transported to the Osceola County Jail and held on a $2000 cash bond.  the arrest stemmed from a traffic violation in Sibley.  Renner was cited for No Insurance, Careless Driving, and Open Container, all Simple Misdemeanors.

October 19, 2013, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office arrested Tara Ferguson, age 22, of Ashton, IA.  Ferguson was charged with allegedly Operating a motor Vehicle While Intoxicated 1st Offense.  Ferguson was transported to the Osceola County Jail and held on a $1000 bond.  The arrest stemmed from a traffic violation in Sibley.

October 19, 2013, at approximately 4:00PM, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office responded to a vehicle accident on Hwy 60, south of Ashton, IA, near mile marker 42.  Zachary Lessard, age 28, of Sioux City, IA was operating his 2007 Harley Davidson traveling northbound on Hwy 60 when he rear-ended a 1992 Dodge pickup driven by Donald Keninger, age 72, of Ashton, IA.  Lessard failed to see the truck as it was slowing down for a tractor.  Lessard was transported to the Osceola Community Hospital and later life flighted to Sioux Falls for his injuries.  Lessard's Harley Davidson received $7000 damage and Keninger's Dodge received $1500 damage.  The Ashton Ambulance and Fire Departments and the Iowa State Patrol also responded.

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of concrete construction equipment and 2 trailers.  The theft occurred between Sept 23 & 24 at the Bosma Poultry site off of Hwy 60 and Pierce Ave, east of Sibley.  One of the trailers has printed on it's side "VanHof Concrete and Somero laser Screed".  Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the sheriff's office at 712-754-2556 or Text-A-Tip at www.sheriffosceolacounty.org.

Sibley, Iowa – An Ocheyedan man has been sentenced to prison for a term not to exceed fifteen (15) years. Osceola County Attorney Robert Hansen reports that on September 5, 2013, 40 year old Troy Harris of Ocheyedan was sentenced in Osceola County District Court for the crimes of Kidnapping in the Third Degree, a Class “C” Felony and Domestic Abuse, Third or Subsequent Offense, a Class “D” Felony.  The court ordered that the sentences be imposed consecutively.  The charges stem from a 9-1-1 call to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office from the victim on May 19, 2013.  Harris was arrested when deputies found the victim being held against her will and suffering from a broken arm.

September 6, 2013, Kent Douglas Vink, age 21, of Doon, IA, was found guilty of Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense and Interference with Official Acts committed on April 5, 2013.  He is to pay fines and surcharges of $1785.25, the costs of this action and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  The defendant is sentenced to sixty (60) days in the Osceola County Jail with all time suspended except for two (2) days which must be served.  He will be put on informal probation to the Sheriff for a period of 2 years.  The defendant is also ordered to undergo a substance abuse evaluation and is further ordered to participate and cooperate in such substance abuse counseling.  Vink was arrested after a traffic stop on April 5, 2013.

September 6, 2013, Kelvin Francisco Rodriguez, age 27, of Sheldon, IA, was found guilty of Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, Simple Misdemeanor Assault, and Simple Misdemeanor Harassment committed on May 11, 2013.  He is to pay fines and surcharges of $1873.00, the costs of this action and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  For operating while intoxicated the defendant is sentenced to sixty (60) days in the Osceola County Jail with all time suspended except for two (2) days which must be served. On each other offense, the defendant is sentenced to serve thirty (30) days with twenty-six (26) days suspended during a two year informal probation to the Sheriff with credit for time already previously served for this offense.   The defendant is also ordered to undergo a substance abuse evaluation and is further ordered to participate and cooperate in such substance abuse counseling.  Rodriguez was arrested after our office received a driving complaint call.

September 6, 2013, Joey Lee Renken, age 45, of Sibley, IA, was found guilty of Theft in the Fourth Degree, a Serious Misdemeanor.  He is to pay fines and surcharges of $425.25, the costs of this action and restitution for the Sheriff’s room and board fees for each day served in jail and any medical fees advanced by the Sheriff on behalf of the defendant.  The defendant is sentenced to thirty (30) days in the Osceola County Jail with twenty-eight (28) days suspended during a two year informal probation to the Sheriff.  He will be put on informal probation to the Sheriff for a period of 2 years.  After serving a search warrant, the defendant was found to be in possession of stolen items.

August 25, 2013, an Osceola County Deputy arrested Joseph Allen Julius, age 25, of Sibley, IA for allegedly assaulting a female victim and was charged with domestic abuse assault, a simple misdemeanor.  Julius was transported to the Osceola County Jail and is being held on a $300 bond.

August 24, 2013, an Osceola County Deputy arrested Mark Allen Kruse, age 53, of George, IA and charged him for allegedly operating while intoxicated 4th offense, a class "D" felony.  Kruse was also cited for driving without a valid driver's license, not having proof of insurance and improper registration, all simple misdemeanors.  Kruse was transported to the Osceola County jail and is being held on a $5000 bond.  The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop west of Sibley.

August 23, 2013, Erin Lee Campbell, age 39, of Primghar, IA, was found guilty of Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, committed on June 16, 2013.  He is to pay fines and surcharges of $1697.50, the costs of this action and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees.  The defendant is sentenced to 1 year in the Osceola County Jail with all time suspended except for 2 days which much be served.  He will be put on informal probation to the Sheriff for a period of 2 years.  His arrest stemmed from a report that there was a vehicle in the ditch with a person inside and the vehicle door was open. 

August 17, 2013, Osceola County Deputies arrested Brenda Lynne Vanoort, age 48, of Ashton, IA and charged her for allegedly being Intoxicated in Public.  Vanoort was transported to the Osceola County Jail  on a $300 bond.

August 15, 2013, an Osceola County Sheriff's Deputy arrested Isik Olaf Schmidt, age 22, of Sheldon, IA and charged him with the alleged offenses of Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor and Interference with Official Acts, a Simple Misdemeanor.  A passenger was also cited and released for Possession  of Alcohol Under Legal Age.  The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop south of Sibley.  Schmidt failed to stop for a Deputy near exit 48 of Hwy 60.  Schmidt eventually slowed down enough to exit the vehicle,  but left it in gear allowing the vehicle to roll further southbound on Hwy 60.  Schmidt then fled on foot into the ditch of Hwy 60.  Schmidt was taken into custody shortly after fleeing and then transported to the Osceola County Jail on a $1300 bond.

August 13, 2013, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office received a tip at approximately 8:01pm from a concerned citizen of a possible drunk driver.  The driver and vehicle were located in Sibley by an Osceola County Deputy.  After an investigation, Devan Thomas Schneidermann, age 22, of Sibley was placed under arrest for allegedly Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor.  Schneidermann was transported to the Osceola County Jail.  While being booked into jail, a marijuana pipe was found in Schneidermann's waistline.  He was then charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, a Simple Misdemeanor and Possessing Contraband in a Correctional Facility, a Class "D" Felony. 

August 3, 2013, at 3:25am, Scott Modder, age 24, of George, IA was driving a 2004 Chevrolet pickup westbound on 230th St, east of Ashton Avenue in Ashton, IA and lost control of the vehicle.  Modder drove into the north ditch, corrected and drove back onto the highway.  Modder then overcorrected and reentered the north ditch where the vehicle came to rest after striking a utility pole.  Modder's vehicle sustained approximately $15,000 damage.  The utility pole, owned by Alliant Energy of Madison, WI sustained approximately $1000 damage.  A yard, owned by Douglas Lehner of Ashton, IA sustained approximately $200 damage.  Following an investigation, Modder was booked into the Osceola County Jail for allegedly Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense, Open Container, and Failure to Maintain Control.  The accident remains under investigation.

August 2, 2013, at 4:59pm, approximately 14 motorcycles were traveling westbound on Hwy 9 approaching the intersection  of NW Blvd in rural Osceola County.  Serge Jacques, age 42, of Feugerolles, France was driving a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle and was stopped at the intersection of NW Blvd.  Renee Nadine, age 53, of Malmont, France was driving a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle and was approaching the intersection of NW Blvd and did not see Jacques had stopped at the stop sign and rear ended the back of his motorcycle.  Jacques was ejected forward into the intersection from the impact of the collision.  Nadine was ejected towards the left shoulder of the highway from the impact of the collision.  Guy Andre, age 56, of Firminy, France was driving a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle further behind Jacques and Nadine.  Andre lost control of the motorcycle once he saw the collision take place and laid the bike onto it's left side.  Andre sustained no injuries from the collision.  Nadine sustained incapacitating injuries and was taken to the Osceola Community Hospital where she was later airlifted to McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.  Jacques sustained incapacitating injuries and was taken to the Osceola Community Hospital.  Nadine's motorcycle sustained approximately $1500 damage.  Jacques' motorcycle sustained approximately $2900 damage.  Andre's motorcycle sustained approximately $1000 damage.  All three motorcycles are owned by J.C. Bromac Corp. of Hawthorne, CA.  Both Sibley ambulances and the Sibley Fire & Rescue assisted the Osceola County Sheriff's Office at the scene. 

July 30, 2013, the Osceola County Sheriff's Office is investigating three burglaries which occurred over the past weekend.  Elevators in the towns of Ashton, Allendorf, and Ocheyedan all reported Monday, July 29th of burglaries in the office area of the elevators.  Reported taken in each of the burglaries was an undisclosed amount of cash.  Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Sheriff's Office at 712-754-2556 or send an anonymous tip to Text-A-Tip at this website.

July 29, 2013, at 12:40am, Jeffrey Greer, age 20, of Spirit Lake, IA, was driving a 1997 Chevrolet pickup eastbound on Hwy 9, west of Taft Ave and struck a deer on the highway.  Greer's vehicle sustained approximately $2750 damage.  No injuries were reported.

July 19, 2013, at 8:03pm, Linda Kruger, age 51, of Sibley, IA, was backing a 2004 Dodge Durango from a parking stall at the Dollar General parking lot in Sibley, IA.  Kruger's vehicle struck an illegally parked 2002 Buick Century owned by Judith Roghair of Sibley, IA.  Kruger's vehicle sustained no damage.  Roghair's vehicle sustained approximately $1300 damage.  No injuries were reported.

July 24, 2013, at 4:34pm, Robert Grave, age 56 of Sibley, IA, was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Suburban southbound on 5th Ave, north of 10th St in Sibley, IA.  Grave lost control of the vehicle and jumped the east curb before striking a tree head on.  Grave's vehicle sustained approximately $8500 damage.  Grave was taken to the Osceola Community Hospital with unknown injuries.  Sibley Ambulance assisted the Osceola County Sheriff's Office at the scene.  The accident remains under investigation. 

July 25, 2013, Clayton Ahsbahs, Jr,age 41, of Hartley, IA, plead guilty to Operating While Intoxicated, First Offense and Driving Under Suspension, committed on September 4, 2012.  The defendant is to pay fines and surcharges of $1697.50, the costs of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees, if any.  He is sentenced to imprisonment in the Osceola County Jail for 1 year with all but 14 days suspended during a 2 year formal probation to the IA Dept of Corrections.  The defendant shall receive credit for 18 hrs 35 minutes previously served for this offense.  Ahsbahs was arrested during a traffic stop September 4, 2012.

July 17, 2013, Jennifer Miller, age 19, of George, IA, plead guilty to Possession of Marijuana, committed on April 5, 2013.  The defendant is to pay fines and surcharges of $1350.00, the costs of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees, if any.  She is sentenced to  sixty (60) days in the Osceola County Jail, all time suspended during a two (2) year informal probation to the Sheriff.  The defendant shall receive credit for three (3)  hrs nineteen (19) minutes previously served for this offense. Miller was arrested during a traffic stop April 5, 2013.

July 17, 2013, at 7:00am, Gregory Nagengast, age 28, of Albertville, MN, had properly parked a 2004 Freightliner truck and trailer and left it running unattended in the Jack Rabbit Junction parking lot in Sibley, IA.  The brakes on the semi let loose and it ran into a legally parked 1991 Plymouth Voyager owned by Sisavad Ektanitphong, age 44, of Worthington, MN.  Nagengast's vehicle sustained no damage.  Ektniphong's vehicle sustained approximately $500 damage.  No injuries were reported.

July 6, 2013, at 10:05pm, Rebecca Habinck, age 35, of Sheldon, IA, was driving a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country van southbound on Hwy 60, north of 230th Street and struck a deer on the highway.  Habinck's vehicle sustained approximately $2000 damage.  No injuries were reported.

June 28, 2013, Brandon Hakeneis, age 25, of Ashton, IA, plead guilty to Possession of Marijuana, committed on May 18, 2013.  The defendant is to pay fines and surcharges of $1350.00, the costs of this action, and restitution of any court appointed attorney fees, if any.  He is sentenced to  sixty (60) days in the Osceola County Jail, all time suspended during a two (2) year informal probation to the Sheriff.  Hakeneis was arrested during an investigation of a disturbance at a residence May 18, 2013.

June 28, 2013, at 6:50am, Reece Bierman, age 28, of Round Lake, MN, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo, southbound on White Avenue and failed to see a vehicle in front of his vehicle slow down to turn onto a private driveway north of 210th Street.  Bierman swerved to avoid hitting the vehicle and entered the west ditch and struck a utility pole.  Bierman's vehicle sustained approximately $4000 damage and was given a citation for Failure to Maintain Control.  The utility pole, owned by Osceola Electric Coop of Sibley, sustained approximately $1000 damage.  A telephone communication box, owned by Windstream Communications of Little Rock, Arkansas, sustained an unknown amount of damage.  No injuries were reported.

June 28, 2013, Ernest Marienous Christensen, age 62, of Ocheyedan, IA, was found guilty of Sexual Abuse 3rd Degree, a Class "C" Forcible Felony.  The Defendant is committed to the custody of the Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections for no more than 10 years.  The Defendant shall be credited for time served since his arrest on March 5, 2013.  The Court imposes a special sentence committing the Defendant to the custody of the Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections for the rest of the Defendant's life, with eligibility for parole as provided in Chapter 906 of the Iowa Code.  This special sentence shall commence upon completion of the sentence imposed above.  The Defendant is ordered to comply with the Sex Offender Registry requirements of Iowa.  The Defendant is sentenced to pay the minimum fine of $1000 plus a 35% surcharge, however, the fine and surcharge are suspended.  The No Contact Order presently in place shall continue through the Defendant's incarceration and parole.  The Defendant is ordered to give a bodily substance for DNA testing.  The Defendant shall pay victim restitution in this case, including payments made by the Iowa Victim Compensation Program.  The Defendant shall pay all court costs for this case.  The Defendant must pay restitution for attorney fees.  Christensen was delivered to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center at Oakdale, IA by Osceola County Sheriff's Deputies.

July 1, 2013, Paige Mackenzie Dather, age 25, of Melvin, IA, was found guilty of Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense (Serious Misdemeanor) committed on January 1, 2013.  Defendant is to pay a fine of $1250, a 35% surcharge of $437.50, the costs of this action, restitution of any court appointed attorney fees and a drug abuse resistance education surcharge of $10.  She is sentenced to 60 days in the Osceola County Jail with all time suspended except for 2 days which must be served with credit for time already served.  The Defendant is ordered to undergo a substance abuse evaluation and participate and cooperate in such counseling as recommended.  She is also to complete a course for drinking drivers.  This charge stemmed from an arrest January 1, 2013, when the Defendant was operating a vehicle while intoxicated in Melvin, IA.

July 1, 2013, Landon Norman Dather, age 30, of Melvin, IA, was found to be in Contempt of Court for failing to fully satisfy the Requirements of the Judgment against him in the matter of the Criminal Mischief & Domestic Abuse Judgment dated June 18, 2012.  The Defendant will serve four days in the County Jail on 2 weekends during the month of July 2013.  The Defendant will also contact Season's Center in Spencer, IA and re-apply for the Domestic Abuse Offenders program by July 8, 2013.  He will successfully complete that program at his own expense, following all scheduling and directions of that program to the satisfaction of the Director.

June 23, 2013, at 1:08pm, Jacob David Evenson, age 21, of Vermillion, SD, was driving a 2003 Pontiac GrandPrix, northbound on Hwy 60, north of 170th Street and became fatigued behind the wheel.  Evenson's vehicle drifted off the left shoulder of the highway.  Evenson attempted to steer the vehicle back onto the highway causing the vehicle to flip onto its passenger side and come to rest in the median.  Evenson's vehicle sustained approximately $3500 damage.  No injuries were reported.  Sibley Fire and Rescue, Sibley Ambulance Service and Iowa State Patrol assisted the Osceola County Sheriff's Office at the scene.  Evenson was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.

June 16, 2013, at 11:00pm, Dennis Bosma, age 70, of Ocheyedan, IA, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet pickup, westbound on 170th Street, west of Silver Avenue and struck a deer on the highway.  Bosma's vehicle sustained approximately $2500 damage.  No injuries were reported. 

June 16, 2013, at 6:20am, Erin Lee Campbell, age 39, of Primghar, IA, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban, southbound on Olive Avenue, north of 260th Street when he lost control and entered the east ditch.  Campbell's vehicle, owned by Joshua Bottjen of Primghar, IA, sustained approximately $1600 damage.  Campbell was arrested for allegedly Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense and given a citation for Failure to Maintain Control.  No injuries were reported.

June 21, 2013, Scot Lee Scheerhoorn, age 54, of Sanborn, IA, was arrested and charged with the alleged offenses of Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense (Aggravated Misdemeanor), Possession of Controlled Substance 2nd Offense (Serious MIsdemeanor), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Simple Misdemeanor), and given a citation for speeding.  The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop east of Ashton.  Scheerhoorn was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $3300 bond.

June 11, 2013, Marc Gibbons, 25, of Sanborn, IA, was arrested by Osceola County Deputies for the offenses of OWI 2nd (Aggravated Misdemeanor), Driving while Suspended (Simple Misdemeanor), and Open Container (Simple Misdemeanor).  Gibbons was arrested after a witness observed the defendant strike a bridge with his vehicle and then flee.  Gibbons was found in a private drive trying to repair the vehicle.  During the investigation it was found that Gibbons was allegedly suspended from driving.  It was also found that Gibbons was allegedly operating the vehicle while intoxicated and allegedly had an open container in the vehicle.  Gibbons was booked into the Osceola County Jail on a $2600 bond.

June 14, 2013, Derek Michael White, age 29, of Sibley, IA, plead guilty to 2 counts of Tampering With Records, Aggravated Misdemeanors.  On each offense, the Defendant is to pay a fine of $625, a 35% surcharge of $218.75, 1 $125 Law Enforcement Initiative Surcharge, the costs of this action, and restitution of all court appointed attorney fees.  On each offense, the Defendant is sentenced to 1 year in the Osceola County Jail, however, 6 months of this sentence of incarceration is suspended and the Defendant shall presently serve 6 months in the Osceola County Jail with no opportunity for work release.  The 2 sentences shall be imposed concurrently with each other but shall be served consecutively to the sentence imposed in Osceola Co. Criminal Case No. FECR005800.  The Defendant is placed on formal probation for a period of 2 years to the Iowa Dept. of Corrections.  On September 14, 2012 White was charged with 2 counts of Perjury, a Class "D" Felony for knowingly making a false statements of material fact or denying knowledge of a material fact while under oath, once on July 5, 2012 and once on July 26, 2010.  These charges were amended to Tampering With Records.  The Defendant also plead guilty to the charge of Theft in the Second Degree, a Class "D" Felony.  The Defendant is sentenced to the custody of the Director of the Iowa Dept. of Corrections for an indeterminate term of 5 years.  However, that sentence is suspended and the Defendant is placed on formal probation to the Iowa Dept. of Corrections for a period of 4 years.  If this sentence is ever revoked, it shall be served consecutively to the sentence imposed in Osceola Co. Criminal No. FECR005801.  The Defendant is also to pay a fine of $750, a 35% surcharge of $262.50, the costs of this action, and restitution of all court appointed attorney fees during the term of probation.  However, the fine and 35% surcharge are suspended.  The Defendant is placed on formal probation for a period of 4 years.  The Defendant was charged with Theft 2nd Degree July 11, 2012, when he unlawfully took property of the Sibley Fire Department with the intent to deprive them thereof. 

June 11, 2013, 12:45am, Travis Stofferan, age 19, of Ocheyedan, IA, was driving a 1994 GMC Sierra, eastbound on Hwy 9, east of Silver Avenue and struck a deer on the highway.  Stofferan's vehicle sustained approximately $1500 damage.  No injuries were reported.

June 10, 2013, Meranda Joy Schwarz, age 19, of Sheldon, IA, plead guilty to the charge of Harassment by Communication, a Simple Misdemeanor.  The Court ordered that the Defendant pay a criminal penalty surcharge of 35% and the court costs of this case.  The Defendant was sentenced to 10 days in the Osceola County Jail with all 10 days suspended in the form of informal probation to the Magistrate Court.  As a condition of this informal probation the Defendant will have no contact with the victim of this harassment.  Schwarz was charged after she had been calling the victim names for the last 2-3 months causing the victim to be annoyed an alarmed by the Defendant's statements.

June 10, 2013, Trenton Wray Braby, age 31, of Sibley, IA, plead guilty to the charge of Harassment 3rd Degree, a Simple Misdemeanor.  The Defendant was ordered to pay a 35% criminal penalty surcharge and the court costs of this case.  He was sentenced to 10 days in the Osceola County Jail with all 10 days suspended as informal probation to the Magistrate Court for a period of 2 years.  If any further convictions for similar offenses occur, the Court may enforce these 10 days in jail upon the Defendant during that 2 year period.  On May 11, 2013, the Defendant did unlawfully communicate with another without legitimate purpose and cause an annoyance to the victim.

June 9, 2013, Osceola County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Pablo Marchessini, age 26, of Sibley, IA, for the offenses of OWI 1st (Serious Misdemeanor) and Driving While Suspended (Simple Misdemeanor).  The defendant was arrested after a traffic stop.  During the traffic stop it was found that Marchessini allegedly was suspended from driving for failing to refile SR22.  It was also found that Marchessini was allegedly operating the vehicle while intoxicated.  Marchessini is currently in the Osceola County Jail on a $1300 cash bond.

June 3, 2013, Cliff Edwin Garnett, age 29, of Sibley, IA, plead guilty to the charges of Trespass and Criminal Mischief 5th Degree, both Simple Misdemeanors.  The court ordered that the defendant pay a criminal penalty surcharge of 35% and the court costs of both cases.  Payment is due June 3, 2013, and becomes delinquent after 30 days.  The defendant will pay restitution for the broken window and is sentenced to thirty days in jail, with all time suspended as informal probation to the Magistrate Court for two years.  Garnett was arrested May 20, 2013, after breaking a window and entering a residence.

June 3, 2013, Lisa Jean Sargent, age 28, of Sioux Falls, SD, plead guilty to the charge of Assault, a Simple Misdemeanor. The court ordered that the defendant pay a criminal penalty surcharge of 35% and the court costs of this case with payment due June 3, 2013 and delinquent after 30 days. The defendant is sentenced to thirty days in jail with all time suspended except time served. This suspended time will be seen as informal probation to the Magistrate Court for a period of two years. Sargent was arrested May 27, 2013, after she assaulted someone during an argument.
