February 14, 2024 at approximately 6:10pm, Darwin Dean Van Maasdam, age 73, of Ocheyedan, IA was driving a 2002 Ford Ranger eastbound on Hwy 9 near Taft Ave when he lost control due to wind and ice/snowy road conditions.  The Ranger entered the south ditch and overturned receiving approximately $5,000 in damage.  Van Maasdam was assisted out of the vehicle by a passerby and taken to his residence in Ocheyedan.  

February 12, 2024, Martin Bernard Struthers, age 47, of Sioux City, IA was convicted of the offense of Operating While Under the Influence, Second Offense, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.  The Defendant shall serve sixty (60) days in the Osceola County Jail with all but seven (7) days suspended and with credit for time already served.  The Defendant shall pay a $1,875.00 fine, 15% crime services surcharge, courts costs, legal defense expenses, crime victim assistance costs, any required contribution to a local anticrime organization, and restitution to the medical assistance program.  The Defendant shall obtain a substance abuse evaluation, and follow any treatment, rehabilitation, or monitoring program as recommended by said evaluation. The Defendant is placed on probation to the Third Judicial District Department of Corrections for a period of one (1) year.  The Defendant shall successfully complete a drinking driver's course as directed by the Defendant's probation officer.  If the Defendant's license has not already been revoked, the Department of Transportation shall revoke Defendant's license.

February 10, 2024, an Osceola County Deputy arrested Tanner Albert Bendt, age 20, of Sibley, IA for allegedly Operating While Under the Influence 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor.  Beldt was also issued citations for Possession/Purchase of Alcohol by Person 18/19/20, and Misuse of License or ID to Purchase Alcohol.  Bendt was booked into the Osceola County Jail and released on a $1,000 unsecured signature bond.  The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop at 8th Ave and 6th St in Sibley.

February 7, 2024, an Osceola County Deputy arrested Kiley Ryan Akers, age 22, of Sibley, IA on a warrant for Nobles County, MN.  Akers was booked into the Osceola County Jail and later extradited to Nobles County Jail in MN.

February 5, 2024, an Osceola County Deputy arrested Zakery Raines Wollmuth, age 21, of Sibley, IA for alleged Possession of Controlled Substance - Marijuana 3rd or Subsequent Offense, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, Operating While Under the Influence 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor.  Wollmuth was transported and booked into the Osceola County Jail and released on a $4,000 unsecured signature bond. The arrest stemmed from a request for a welfare check on a male sleeping in a vehicle at Kwik Star in Sibley.

February 5, 2024, at approximately 8:45am, Blake Allen Enderson, age 27, of Estherville, IA was driving a 2021 Rockport Fedex van registered to Mata Enterprises Inc of Arnold's Park, IA westbound on 160th St.  Dylan Matthew Huisenga, age 28, of South Sioux City, NE was driving a 2022 Dodge Ram 2500 registered to Renew Equipment Financing LLC of St Louis, MO northbound on Wilson Ave. Huisenga failed to yield the right of way to Enderson at the uncontrolled intersection and the van collided with the Ram in the intersection. The Fedex van received approximately $20,000 in damage and the Dodge Ram received approximately $40,000 in damage.  Both drivers were unable to see because of the heavy fog.  Enderson was transported to the Spirit Lake Hospital with minor injuries by the Sibley Ambulance, Huisenga was not injured.  Huisenga was issued a citation for Failure to Yield Right of Way.  Harris Fire Department and Ocheyedan Ambulance assisted at the scene.

February 4, 2024, an Osceola County Deputy arrested Jacob Patrick Hennesey, age 24, of Omaha, NE for allegedly Operating While Under the Influence, First Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor.  Hennesey was transported and booked into the Osceola County Jail and held on a $1,000 bond.  The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop at Hwy 60 and 230th St after receiving a report of an erratic driver.

January 31, 2024, Eric Michael Shinn, age 34, of Spirit Lake, IA was convicted of the offense of Operating While Under the Influence, Second Offense, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.  The Defendant shall serve ninety (90) days in the Osceola County Jail with all but seven (7) days suspended and with credit for time already served.  The Defendant shall pay a $1,875.00 fine, 15% crime services surcharge, court costs, legal defense expenses, crime victim assistance costs, any required contribution to a local anticrime organization, and restitution to the medical assistance program.  The Defendant shall be placed on probation to the Third Judicial District Department of Corrections for a period of two (2) years.  The Defendant shall successfully complete a drinking driver’s course as directed by the Defendant’s probation officer.  The Defendant shall obtain a substance abuse evaluation and follow any treatment, rehabilitation, or monitoring program as recommended by said evaluation. 

January 31, 2024, Daniel Roger Ewoldt, age 20, of Hospers, IA was convicted of the offense of Possession of Controlled Substance – Marijuana, First Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor.  The Defendant shall serve two (2) days in the Osceola County Jail with credit for time already served.  The Defendant shall pay a $430.00 fine, 15% crime services surcharge, court costs, legal defense expenses, crime victim assistance costs, any required contribution to a local anticrime organization, and restitution to the medical assistance program. The Defendant shall obtain a substance abuse evaluation and follow any treatment, rehabilitation, or monitoring program as recommended by said evaluation. 

January 31, 2024, Steven John Ludwig, age 67, of Sibley, IA, was convicted of the offense of Driving While Barred, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.  The Defendant shall serve four (4) days in the Osceola County Jail with credit for time already served.  The Defendant shall pay a $855.00 fine, 15% crime services surcharge, , court costs, legal defense expenses, crime victim assistance costs, any required contribution to a local anticrime organization, and restitution to the medical assistance program.
